1. CRACKED magazine online reports about 5 Movies Hollywood Needs to Stop Making Now. It’s hilarious.
2. Youtube is simply amazing. So, without further adue, something you could only find on the internet: Japanese pen tricks. It’s like extreme “penning,” or something.
V For Vendetta
Apr 6th
Voila! In view, a humble vaudevillian veteran, cast vicariously as both victim and villain by the vicissitudes of Fate. This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is a vestige of the vox populi, now vacant, vanished. However, this valorous visitation of a bygone vexation stands vivified, and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin vanguarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violation of volition. The only verdict is vengeance; a vendetta held as a votive, not in vain, for the value and veracity of such shall one day vindicate the vigilant and the virtuous. Verily, this vichyssoise of verbiage veers most verbose, so let me simply add that it’s my very good honor to meet you and you may call me V.
Why I Am A Dork
Apr 18th
So today, I saw a movie called “Revolution OS.” It was friggin awesome. It details the rise of the open source movement, Linux, Red Hat, and the contributions of Richard Stallman, Eric Raymond, Bruce Perens, the guys from VA Linux, Michael Tiemann, and Linus himself. Very interesting look into the zen philosophy of free software and the way it has affected our culture and/or should affect our culture. Makes you appreciate the contributions RMS gave to the community, even if he’s insistent on this damned GNU/everything.
Yes, you’ll feel like a big dork if you watch it and like it, but it’s really interesting.
On that note, I had a decent job interview today, so here’s hoping…
Coming Attractions
Jan 18th
As a boy, one of my favorite parts of going to the movies was the coming attractions. As I got older and movies at home became more convenient and commonplace, I learned to appreciate trailers as one of the still unique experiences about going out to a theater.
A few years ago, moviefone started sponsoring ads running before the trailers. The first one, featuring an old Russian man and a potato was laughable. Then, they became less funny. And there were ads for Pepsi and Coke. Shortly thereafter, the ads got longer, and Blockbuster joined in. Now, when I go to the movies, I don’t just get previews, I get all sorts of nonsense including NASCAR drivers peddling soft drinks and video game trailers (uh…video game trailers?!).
Is there anything not for sale anymore? It seems at every opportunity, someone is selling my time. A 30 minute TV show is only 22 minutes. A Bond film is practically one long commercial. I’ve been whining about commercials for a while now, but the thing is, ads are everywhere. And it’s pissing me off.
The Chamber of Secrets

I realized, after reading an article, that this has been a great year for movies. There have been three huge movies so far: Spider-Man, Star Wars Ep II, and Austin Powers 3, and that’s just 2002 through the end of summer. We still have two big movies coming out – Lord of the Rings 2: The Two Towers, and Harry Potter 2 (new trailer just released, check it out RIGHT HERE.
The thing so amazing about this is that in the end, there’s a good chance each of these movies will make 300 million bucks apiece and I actually liked all of them so far. We had some other high points too – from Bourne Identity to Signs. This has been a good year for movies.
Now for a real question: If Bill Cosby’s Leonard Part VI had been a hit, would the sequel be called “Leonard, Part VI, part II” or “Leonard, Part VII” or even “Leonard, Part II.” I don’t really know.
These Days, Reading Books is too much Effort
Sep 7th
I have to say, I buy into “reading.” Reading is what intelligent people do – it’s a sign of intellect, and those who read tend to be captivating and interesting. But lately, movies have been doing it for me, not books. I can’t get myself to read a friggin book.
I’ve seen a lot of good movies. Some old Hithcock films, and very recently, “The Tao of Steve,” which I liked. I watched “The Minus Man,” in which some comedians put a fairly freaky story together. I really want to buy Bottle Rocket on DVD — in fact, could one of you please buy it and give it to me?
It’s sad to say, but it’s getting to be truer by the day. Who would’ve ever though that movies are the books of the 21st century?
