progress progress…
May 10th
Lots of progress on Flip Lite 2.0. i actually added some features that i don’t have in the ft blog. Sadly, adding them will probably be a lot of work since this blog is pretty friggin seriously customized. But still, I hope to get it done soon. Then c2.
In the meantime, the new spam filter we have at work is so damned cool. I cannot wait til I tighten the filters.
Lastly, Terrapin Station, one of the coolest songs ever.

i am addicted to f’ing with flip. no matter what i do, i can’t stop adding, tweaking, playing. you’ll notice the little permalink button now. sure, i messed with the styles to get it to do that, but that’s not all. now, blog.php scans archives to look for the entry, meaning even archived news is dynamically searched for permalink stuff. no small feat – it took some jiggling to get it to work.
that, however, is not part of fl2. fl2 cannot do archiving, and won’t try to. i need to solidy the feature list and get it on tubecode.org.
gotcha.

so i got my new comp package. that’s nice. too bad it took me four months and my company showed me little to no respect, condescended to me, and nickel and dimed me to shit. what cheap bastards.
going to meet N tonight. hope she’s cool. i’m so not in the mood for another bum experience.
i’m tired. i am going to sleep good tonight. tomorrow, i’ll a little more, because i want to record all going on with flip c2.
flip lite bug. damn.

double damn.
bug in flip lite. apparently, yours truly did some poor function research. but i can’t be the only one to not realize that the time format for strftime() is not the same as date().
so, if you set $_locale to TRUE, you’ll find that unless you HAPPEN to use characters that work, you could end up with something very different than you though. worse, the locale is still server time – not client time. i would have assume that the http get request would include some sort of locale identifier which would be used in the strftime() gen, but no. not the case, apparently,
so i redid the time portion, and it will now customize, but not on a per client basis. instead, on a timezone basis using putenv() and strftime(). yes, this is all pretty geeky. but it works, dammit.

it’s official. i have written the first characters of what will become flip c2. c2 will include a ton of stuff that should be in any bloggin application, but will eliminate a lot of extra stuff that has bled into flip-current. in addition, it will reduce the code signficantly and improve security, all while easing use and user interface.
i don’t expect to have anything workable for a while, but it’s going to be exciting. development is going on at our dev site: ninjafoot.com.

yeah, i have a habit of getting into feature creep. i add something, then i add more, then i add more, until it spirals out of control. i don’t intend to extend fl much more, but i will be touching up the blog interface to add a links bar down the side. mainly because right now it’s so big it’s distracting. i’m going to try to do it with div’s only.
the needs of a blogger
Apr 28th
All this recoding of firsttube has gotten me thinking about the needs and wants of the typical blogger. See, I don’t get livejournal and blogger users- the majority of them are just keeping an online diary. Worse off, the content is tripe – entries like “went to the mall with Jordy today, it rawked. we <3 shoos!” Ultra lame.
So I pondered this: what does the average blogger really want? Do they care about a valid rss feed? Do they give a crap about the code? No. They care about this: a nice, pretty, clean interface and the ability to quickly and easily add and edit their posts.
So I will add the boldify and italify and underlinify and linkify functions to Flip Lite, and start thinking about what in Flip Lite gets to graduate to Flip c2.

I’m about to release version 3 of Flip, and the ftweblog, as the development ground, gets its periodic upgrade as a response. Generally, this means I start using it again, which is exciting. If you care to pipe in on any conversation, by all means, register for an account and jump in!
Alive again.

Flip 3.0 is coming along, and I’m preparing to release the last beta before the release candidate. I intend to complete it this weekend. That’s all. Is it bad that I just wanted to post this so the weblog wasn’t dead.
